Cozy Mystery Season: 3 MUST Read Mystery Series

If you ask me, every season is cozy mystery season. I know, we’ve been down this road before where I pour out my undying love for these adorable mass market paperbacks. First off, who doesn’t love a good murder mystery series? Secondly, adding a plentiful amount of character development can’t help but suck you in. I mean, between the mystery and the characters, what’s not to love? Third, I’m sure we can come up with dozens of more reasons why cozy mysteries are superior.

Yes, I understand that’s my opinion. And yes, I’m sticking to it. (*Insert sarcasm here) LOL

Anyways, since it’s spooky season and all, I figured I would go ahead and share with you a few of my favorite mystery series. Between these suggestions, you will have plenty to read all the way through the new year, and then some.

A Magical Bakery Mystery Series

By: Bailey Cates

We might as well start with one of my all time favorite, and still growing, series. A Magical Bakery Mystery series starts with Brownies and Broomsticks; book one out of nine, thus far.

In book one, we meet Katie Lightfoot. Katie is newly planted in Savannah, Georgia, where she joins forces with her aunt and uncle to open a bakery. It had always been a life long dream of Katie’s to create beautiful pastries and make folks happy with sweets.

Katie soon catches onto her Aunt Lucy’s particular recipes and intent with ingredients. Over time, Lucy opens Katie’s eyes to a world that she was intentionally kept from.

Furthermore, Katie becomes open minded to the idea and fact that she might, somehow, have the similar, witch-like, capabilities.

From there, we meet the supporting cast of Aunt Lucy’s coven, The Spell-Book Club, firefighter, Declan McCarthy, and journalist, Steve Dawes. This group of characters round out the making of A Magical Bakery Mystery along with a few other fan favorites, thrown into the series over time.

Together, we watch Katie grow as a woman, a witch, and a baker. Along with the help of her aunt and The Spell-Book Club, Katie and crew use their magical intuition to help solve case after case.

In conclusion, this is a fabulous series. The character development is top notch, and you constantly are rooting for Katie, everyone in her coven, and her adorable familiar and furry friend, Mungo.

This is a five star series and auto purchase, for me. Plus, there are nine books to wrap yourself into.

I mean, who doesn’t love a good series with tons of growth, longevity, and exciting twists and turns?

Do yourself a favor and check out A Magical Bakery Mystery series.

A Sloan Krause Mystery Series

By: Ellie Alexander

Where do I even begin with this series? I suppose, I’ll start by saying Sloan Krause is one of my favorite characters of ALL TIME!

Now, for a little back story. It all starts with Death on Tap, the first book in this series.

Sloan is left to pick up the pieces of her life in Leavenworth, Washington’s “Beervaria” after she catches her husband cheating on her. Did I mention her entire world revolves around the cheating husband, Mac, his family, and their brewery she’s been running for majority of her adult life?

Soon after Sloan decides to make a dedicated effort to move on, a murder mystery occurs at her new place of work and leaves her cheating ex as the number one suspect.

For the sake of their son Alex, Mac’s adorable German family, and Sloan’s whole hearted conscious, she takes matters into her own hands and leads her own investigation.

I can’t even go into more detail without giving away the entire story. Let me just tell you, again, how fabulous this series really is. Each book has had me on the edge of my seat, begging for more!

Don’t dawdle on Sloan, or really anything Ellie Alexander writes. A Bakeshop Mystery series, also written by Ellie Alexander, is an honorable mention that I’m currently working my way through. I’m on book five out of twelve. I have a long way to go with is group of characters, and I’m loving each book more and more.

A Witch’s Cat Mystery Series

By: Delia James

In the first book of A Witch’s Cat Series by Delia James, we meet Annabelle Britton, a young lady who can’t seem to settle down. Unhappy in her work and personal life, Annabelle decides to take a visit to Portsmouth, New Hampshire to visit her best friend and chef, Martine. Once Anna gets to Portsmouth, she soon realizes that some unresolved secrets are waiting for her. Annabelle figures out more of her family history and seems to be drawn to figure out her past, present, and future in this town.

Upon arrive, Annabelle finds herself feeling vibes and catching waves of intuition that actually turn out to be magical powers. Shortly after finding out about her magical family history in Portsmouth, Annabelle, along with the strange connection of new feline friend and now magical familiar, Alistair, find themselves in the hunt to disclose and solve the town’s latest scandal and murder, while trying to figure out why her Grandmother kept secrets from her her whole life.

We follow along, with Anna, her “maybe” new coven sisters, and the townsfolk as we try to solve the death of Alistair’s former owner when she suddenly turns up dead.

This hits home plate for me when picking my favorite cozy series. What more could you ask for than a girl who finds out she’s a witch, gets to hang out with her with cat friends all day, and helps solve crime with her new magical powers? Home run, if you ask me.

Anyways, this has been one of my favorite series since the first book came out in 2016. Plus, the cover designs for this series are, with out a doubt, my favorites of all time.

So what if I judge a book by it’s cover from time to time. LOL

Honorable Mentions:

  1. A Tea Shop Mystery Series by: Laura Childs
  2. A Cider Shop Mystery Series by: Julie Ann Lindsay
  3. An Enchanted Garden Mystery Series by: Bailey Cattrell
  4. A Royal Spyness Mystery Series by: Rhys Bowen
